Rain

8/2 Day 3

The day began with a light rain and riding in the parks highway up to Wasilla. About 20 mikes in we had a flat tire and ended up going into an RV center to change the tire out of the rain. This turned out to be an important stop; after some suggestions by the employees, we considered changing our route to head east on the Glenn highway, but after an hour or two decided to stick with the northern route through Denali.

Rain all day. Another flat tire. 57 miles. Stay with a nice family, David and Cassie Lierley, that Jameson and Julia met at carl's junior during our lunch. After we arrived there we were all fed a lot of delicious chili, hot chocolate, and root beer floats. They let us sleep in the garage so we didn't have to deal with setting everything up in the rain. A nice end to a somewhat long and rainy day.

8/3 Day 4

Woke up to yet another rainy day, only today we woke up in a garage so we were able to at least stay dry while we packed up. A nice hot breakfast of eggs, pancakes, chocolate milk and homemade jam provided a nice start to an otherwise dreary day. To compliment the breakfast we were sent off with a lunch of ham sandwiches, homemade bread and cookies. Thank you Lierleys! Beautiful scenery throughout the day, with light rain or clouds throughout.

Some nice mountain views as we entered into Denali state park. After 57 miles we pitched our tents in an rv park where we received some much appreciated hot tea. Beautiful mountain view as shown, although if it's clear apparently you can see McKinley. Cooked our first meal tonight of zatarans rice and beans with some added sausage.

8/4 Day 5

Woke up to another rainy morning with some coffee and hot tea provided by the camp host. Skies cleared up with the mountains showing through for the first few hours of riding. After a lunch of oatmeal with peanut butter and chocolate chips at a nice location overlooking a pond and stream we were off again.

The following 50 miles were tough, with constant rain and the temperatures dropping from 60 to 45. On the up side, the scenery was beautiful sand we had a nice tail wind. After 75 miles we called it a day and crammed into a couple rooms at a lodge in Cantwell to get out of the cold rain.

Also...John.
