The beginning

We arrived in Anchorage at 7 pm, crammed our bikes into some taxi vans, and arrived at the hostel about 9. After a late dinner we headed back to the hostel around 11pm, at which point it was still pretty light, and headed to bed a couple hours later.

A view of some of the massive mountains we saw during our flight in.

7/31, Day 1- We were all up by 7:00 am, 11 am eastern time, putting together the bikes. What we thought would be a two to three hour task turned into an all day ordeal. After a few hours we headed to rei to get some racks and fenders put on as well as a bottom cable guide, some new cables, and all the random screws and bolts we were missing.

Almost done at rei.

Five hours and ~$800 later the eight of us headed out for the hostel and packed up all our bags, which took another few hours. At this point we all came to the realization we brought way too much stuff and everyone packed a bag to send back home. By 10 or 11 we were eating pizza with our tents set up at an rv park.

8/1, Day 2- Thanks to a neighbor at the rv park, our day began with a hot cup of coffee and some homemade banana bread on a fairly cold, probably low 50s, and rainy morning.

Took a while to get going, and after a stop at the post office, wal mart, rei, and subway we finally left town about 3:30. Rode on some nice trails leaving anchorage as shown below.

Got a little lost, had some gear issues, and after 30 miles we ate some pizza and called it a day. Slept in back of mirror lake middle school as pictured below.
