Grande Cache to Jasper, 9/4 to 9/5

9/4
A beautiful day. With John's hands getting worse and Katherine trying to provide her hands a chance to heal, they both hitch hiked into Jasper. Arne, Nathan, and me biked. With sunny skies, highs in the low 70s, lots of downhills, a predominant tailwind, and nice mountain scenery the riding was very enjoyable. We even saw a wolf right beside the road, though by the time anyone had their camera out he returned to the woods. After 85 miles we turned down the Yellowhead highway, rt 16, and camped at the luxurious KOA. The looming mountains hold promise for a day of nice scenery tomorrow as we ride the 40-45 miles into Jasper.

The KOA is a bit ridiculous for a campground, as we cooked our food outside on their electric stoves with the kitchen sinks right beside. Definitely made things easier, but its more of a compromise between camping and a hotel than a real campground.

9/5
A brisk morning as we awoke at 7:30 and began getting ready. With 42 miles into Jasper on relatively flat terrain, we were expecting an easy day of riding. The wind disagreed. The scenery was beautiful as we were surrounded by the Canadian Rockies.

After 4.5 hours of tough riding, with some picture stops, into a headwind we arrived in the town of Jasper. A nice mountain town with an Aspen type feel. We spent the afternoon wandering around the town, eating ice cream, and having the best coffee Jasper has to offer at a laundromat (this is serious, the laundromat is rumored to have the best coffee and it was quite good). After some dinner we ended the day with some beers at the Jasper brewery.
